Utensil Caddy

The term utensil refers to any item which is used to cook and prepare food. This includes popular items such as a ladle, bread knife and can opener, as well as less well known items such as a baba mold or crab fork. There are various types of utensil caddy. One is a product used to store your utensils separately from your flatware in your kitchen. Some of these can be placed in your kitchen drawer, whereas others are designed to be shown off on your kitchen work surface. Both prevent your drawers becoming cluttered with these bulky, yet essential kitchen items. Other types of utensil caddies are made to be placed on your draining board next to your sink so your utensils can dry off separated from your other washing up items, making putting things away easier. All caddies are built to be strong and sturdy, so they will not fall over when heavier items are kept inside them.

Utensil caddies are very useful if you only have small drawers or even if you have no drawers. Some people just prefer to have their utensils where they can reach them easily while cooking. Some caddies have handles on them which make them ideal if you are planning to eat outdoors as you can carry your utensil easily and quickly to your picnic table. This is useful even if you are just planning on eating in the next room.

Most utensil caddies are made from stainless steel, wire or wood. The caddies commonly have a weighted base to stop them being tipped over by large, heavy items. Most are resistant to rust and corrosion and can hold up to 20 utensils. Some have divisions in them for further organization and they usually have a non-slip base made with rubber to ensure they do not scratch your work surface. A lot of caddies are even dishwasher safe.

A classic example of a mainstream caddy is the RSVP Kitchen Utensil Tool Caddy. It is a round caddy made entirely of stainless steel with a holey belt for an unusual look. It has three interior compartments so that you can separate your utensils however you wish and is dishwasher safe. This model is quite large and takes up a bit of space on your kitchen top. However, it does fit quite a few utensils in it.

For something a bit different and girly, the Calypso Basics Kitchen Utensil Caddy with Utensils is a good buy. Made by Reston Lloyd, the pink caddy has been made to generate money and awareness for Ribbon Support, a charity which aims to fight breast cancer. It comes complete with a pink spoon, slotted spoon, ladle and spatula which are all made from heat resistant melamine. The caddy is smaller than the RSPV one and so is better for a small kitchen with not much kitchen surface space. It would look great in a girly, pink kitchen.

The utensil caddy can be functional and an essential kitchen item, but it does not have to be boring. All kinds of designs are available to match your kitchen.
